There’s no need to travel to Sydney to attend the Sydney Writers’ Festival – you can view it right here in Redcliffe!

Redcliffe is the only place in greater Brisbane to offer this not-to-be-missed opportunity to see interviews with famous authors live-streamed from the prestigious Sydney Writers’ Festival (SWF).

This event, themed “Take Me Away – a festival for readers, writers and thinkers”, offers something for everyone and features literary luminaries such as Trent Dalton, Julia Baird and Viet Thanh Nguyen.

Redcliffe Writers Group in association with Redcliffe Library and Fellowship of Australian Writers Queensland (FAWQ) will stream selected events from Sydney Writers’ Festival interspersed with in-person interviews with local authors.

Event Communications Officer, Dr Tracey Zielinski, said everyone was invited to the amazing free event dedicated to bringing the community together around the sharing of books, writing and ideas.

“SWF interviews run for around 40 minutes followed by 15-20 minutes of audience questions,” Tracey said. “Attendees may be able to ask questions via a text to a special phone number provided on the day.

“This is also an exciting opportunity to meet local authors, hear them speak, ask them questions, and buy their books.

“You are welcome to come for as many or as few sessions as you wish. We encourage you to support your local authors by attending their sessions.”

Be entertained and enthralled by short, sharp, real-life sessions with local authors including Jodie Lane, Noel Mealey, Vicki Thomas, Jane Smith, Indrani Ganguly, Philip Bradbury, Jenny Woolsey and Wendy Saini.

Vicki Thomas, author of The Brisbane Line, said she was excited to see the live-streamed interviews as well as share about her own work.

“Trent Dalton brings his unique perspective on life in Brisbane to his writing,” Vicki said.

“I’m also looking forward to hearing Sebastian Barry, Ireland’s Fiction Laureate, talk about his intense and beautifully written book, Old God’s Time.”
