Have you ever wondered why a particular ancestor was not mentioned in their father's will?

Join our special guest speaker, Kay Ryan, at Redcliffe Museum for an informative talk about the historical laws of wills and estates.

Kay is a retired magistrate of the Magistrates Court of Queensland with a keen interest in history, particularly family, local and social history.  She was involved in the establishment of History Queensland Inc. Retirement has now enabled Kay to pursue her interest in history, especially that of Queensland and those who settled here and how our ancestors interacted with the government and its laws.

Kay will talk about:

How other countries influenced the law of wills and estates in Australia
Death duties and the rights of women
Why a grandmother would leave her property to her grandchildren, leaving an only child with a life interest in the family home
The customs and world events that helped shape our practices.
Come along and enjoy a tour of our new exhibition Births, Deaths, and Marriages, where you can learn about the ritual and ceremonial objects associated with life’s milestones.

There will be light refreshments after the talk. Bookings are essential.
