GREEN FESTIVAL FOR GREEN THUMBS
The Redcliffe Garden and Lifestyle Expo is boasting an unbeLEAFable line up at the Redcliffe Botanic Gardens on Sunday 28 July. Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT) CEO Shane Newcombe said after the inaugural expo in 2018, this year was expected to be bigger and better.

Attendees can expect a full day of demonstrations and workshops from some of Australia's leading gardening experts,ť Mr Newcombe said.

We're delighted to have the knowledgeable Gold Logie nominee, Costa Georgiadis, join the speaker line-up to share his depth of knowledge with the crowd.ť

Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor Peter Flannery said the ABC Gardening Australia host was popular among all ages.

Where ever Costa goes, he's sure to draw a crowd. His passion for gardening has really grown amongst our youth and it's exciting to see them learning new skills and getting their hands dirty in the garden,ť Cr Flannery said.

Costa is will speak at the expo about the topic of biodiversity and day to day ways we can all make a difference.

Event-goers will also be able to browse the lifestyle markets, enjoy a meal in the food court, view pop-up gardening displays and participate in yoga and meditation classes.

The Kindred Gardening Stage and Ballycara Lifestyle Stage will host a number of local gardening gurus and industry experts from the Moreton Bay region.

Cr Flannery said this year's festival would again focus on sustainability.

Last year we were the first council in South East Queensland to ban the use of single-use plastic straws at council-operated venues and events,ť Cr Flannery said.

We are continuing this legacy this year through the installation of water refill stations across the [Moreton Bay] region in partnership with UnityWater.

We hope the steps we are taking now will inspire others and challenge them to think outside the sustainability box.ť

The little ones will not be left out, with a dedicated Sesame Lane Little Grubs' Zone, which will feature free face painting and free sustainable crafts, activities and workshops.

Councillor for Division 6, Koliana Winchester, said she hoped many who attend the event would be inspired to create their own sustainable green space. It is fantastic to live in a region where so many children are thinking about the future and have adopted sustainable practices,ť Cr Winchester said.

Entry to the event is by gold coin donation and free parking is available at Redcliffe Showgrounds with a courtesy shuttle bus operating from 9am to 3pm. The full program and details can be found at www.redcliffegardenlifestyl....
