Redcliffe Relay For Life raises funds... and hopes!
Clontarf's Pelican Park will once again play host to the fundraising event, 'Relay For Life', an important event for many local community members. The event was created by the Cancer Council as a way to celebrate cancer survivors, patients and their carers, and to honour and remember lost loved ones all while raising money for research to help save more lives.

The Relay For Life is a 9-hour walk in a team environment, which provides a fun and moving experience for all participants - regardless of age.

Chair of the Redcliffe Relay For Life, Kerri-Anne Dooley, is encouraging all residents to register for the event, as ...everyone has been touched by cancer... either a family member, friend, or colleague. Early detection and research can save lives.

We would all like to be part of a cancer-free future, so by raising funds towards this, in a fun event like Relay For Life, gives us all hope, Kerri-Anne said. The event will begin with a Carer and Survivor afternoon tea and Opening Ceremony, followed by an afternoon of entertainment. A candle-lighting ceremony will take place at 6:30pm in memory of lost loved ones, then the Closing Ceremony will be around 9pm.

This year's fundraising target is $62,000, with all funds going towards Cancer Council Queensland's research, support and information services.

With 44 teams already registered, Kerri-Anne hopes to see many school teams participating again this year.

Last year we had over 13 school teams involved, giving a youthful vibe to the event.

[It's] powerful to see our young people getting into the spirit of Relay For Life and putting the FUN into fundraising!

This year's theme is 'Hawaii' so participants are encouraged to wear their hula skirts, leis and Hawaiian shirts along with their best walking shoes.

Fundraising and participation incentives also exist for those motivated to raise the most money.

We have prizes and shields for the highest individual fundraiser, highest business/community fundraiser and highest school fundraiser, Kerri-Anne said.

Other prizes up for grabs are Best Dressed, Best Themed Team, Best Baton, and many more.
