Redcliffe Show - It
It's winter in Redcliffe, which means it's time for the Redcliffe Show! The annual event held at the end of June sees our local showgrounds come alive for three days with light, colour, smiles, and fun.

Barbara Mapp has been the secretary of the Redcliffe Show Society for the past 34 years. She is also the granddaughter of Charles Webb who began the tradition of holding an annual show in Redcliffe in 1950.

Setting the show apart from larger ones in the city, Barbara and her team of volunteers can cater to the needs and trends of residents in the local area.

Visitors to this year's show can expect to see exciting new categories in the arts and crafts pavilions, as well as the resurrection of old favourites.

It is a way for people on the Peninsula to show what they grow, or what they create, such as their art and woodcraft, Barbara said.

It's showcasing all the things generated by the community and the local people.

This year also sees the reintroduction of the Miss Show Girl (18-26 years) and Show Princess (13-17 years) competitions. Judging of nominees will commence in June with the winners parading at the opening of the show.

Barbara is extremely proud of how local businesses all pitch in to sponsor the show each year, allowing the fantastic array of entertainment in the show's program.

The support I get from local business people in sponsoring the show is amazing.

Gary Baxter, who brings the Trackskill V8 Ute Challenge spectacular to the show, always enjoys his visits back to the Peninsula.

It's one of our favourite shows, Gary said.

I love doing the relay with the people from the crowd and seeing how excited they get.

Gary will bring along two drivers who share among them a wealth of experience, having both raced on tracks like Bathurst, Gold Coast Indy and Clipsal.

Gary's favourite thing about visiting the Redcliffe Show is the community.

I love the community spirit and the dedication of the volunteers.

The Redcliffe Show is held at the Redcliffe Showgrounds from Friday, June 29 until Sunday, July 1. Adult entry $12; Children and Pensioners entry $6.
