Redcliffe Orchid Society Prepares For Autumn Show
Truth be known, orchids are naturally more diverse than we give them credit for because they can grow in most climates around the world. When the Redcliffe District Orchid Society (RDOS) hosts shows, they not only display beautiful flowers, but they help educate potential enthusiasts to best care for their orchids based on their specific living environments. The RDOS’ Autumn Orchid Show takes place this month at the Scarborough Bowls Club, organised by Margie Beckett and Lionel Kirby.

“When you consider that orchids can grow in cooler climates like Ipswich you have to remember that they require different growing conditions,” Margie said. This is why RDOS members team up with special friends, Rolin Farms Orchids, Kingfisher Nursery and Dracaena Farm Nursery, to exhibit extraordinary collections, share valuable expertise and offer handy care tips along with what differences exist between spring and autumn blooms.

“The flowers are a different shape and tend to last up to a month,” Margie said. “This time of year, many spotted Cattleya bloom. They’ve got to be one of my most favourite.”
So, whether you’re a beginner or an enthusiast, this event is right for you. At Scarborough Bowls Club, you can purchase coffee/cake refreshments while their restaurant is open for lunch. “Our show is a fundraiser and we thank everyone who helps make it the successful event it is,” Margie said.

Entry $2pp. Children under 14 years free. For more info on RDOS visit www.redcliffeorchidsociety.org
