Peninsula-based DJs Sounds of Soul Brisbane are bringing their infectious beats to the dance floor at The Loft in West End this month.
Husband and wife duo, Stephen and Elaine Brophy, secured the bigger venue to accommodate more partygoers after a series of sell-out events.
Elaine said she looked forward to seeing their regulars and new faces dancing and enjoying themselves at the event.
“Stephen and I will be playing all the disco dance classics on original vinyl,” Elaine said. “It should be a fantastic night.”
The pair will be spinning the decks with a blend of classic 70s and 80s disco, boogie, funk and soul on original vinyl 45s that they’ve been collecting since they were teenagers.
Stephen said the event allowed them to showcase their brand of music to a new audience.
“We sell out our regular events usually within a week of going on sale, so as this is a really cool and funky space at The Loft, we are expecting another sell-out.”
The couple, originally from the UK, have a long history of loving music and dancing. Elaine has played soul and 60s mod nights in the UK and her hometown in Jersey in the Channel Islands, while Stephen used to frequent Wigan Casino, a popular soul nightclub, in the mid-70s.
They also have a philanthropic side. In May 2018, Stephen was diagnosed with myeloma, an incurable bone marrow cancer. Many of their performances have raised money for myeloma research.
“Elaine and I started DJing when we were invited out of the blue to play at The Cardigan Bar, Sandgate,” Stephen said. “I have collected Northern Soul records from the 70s since my Wigan Casino days, so it was great to dust them off and start playing them all.
“Our audience grew into a following, and we started to play bigger venues, promoting ourselves along the way.”
Their previous sold-out events at Sunny’s Margate Beach have been a success, and fans can expect the same high-energy and fun-filled night at The Ultimate Disco Inferno.
“One thing we know for sure is that we will have everybody up and dancing and having a great time,” Stephen said.
