Cafe Taps Into Bavarian Brews
One whole year into their operations on the Redcliffe Peninsula, Brew N Grind Café & Bar has been a welcome addition to our local dining and entertainment scene.

This month, owner Michelle Garvey is bringing us a version of Germany's largest beer festival, condensed into one day on Saturday 15 October.

Brew N Grind's Oktoberfest will offer German beer on tap, along with the café's own selection from the Banyo-based boutique brewery, All Inn Brewery Co.

Lara from Brew N Grind says there will be traditional German food on the menu, including Bratwurst sausages, sauerkraut, mini pretzels, and Apple Strudel for dessert.

We'll have giant games for a bit of fun, and some live music on the day.

The official Oktoberfest is a two-week festival held each year in Munich, Germany from late September until early October. It is attended by about six million people each year.

The history of Oktoberfest originates from the festivities that were held on 12 October 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Kronprinz (Crown Prince) Ludwig (1786-1868) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen.

There was wine and beer, dancing and horse racing. Pairs of children were paraded through the crowds, dressed in costumes from the then nine Bavarian townships and other regions.

The horse races ended in 1960, but by then, Oktoberfest had become a world-famous festival, spread across the world by German expats and beer-loving university students.

The Oktoberfest in Munich is still celebrated on the Theresienwiese (Meadow of Therese), or the Wiesn for short, which is where the first ever festivities were held.

Come down with your family and enjoy lots of fun, games and German culture during Brew N Grind's Oktoberfest celebrations on Saturday, October 8.
