Flowers and art make the perfect partners, and they will be celebrated in the annual Redcliffe Floral and Arts Festival again this year.

Event organiser Liz Grant is a member of Redcliffe Art Society and a flower arranger at St Peter the Fisherman Anglican Church. She said she loved both art and flowers, and came up with the idea to marry the two.

“I thought the festival could highlight and give a platform to local community groups, small businesses, and musicians," she said. "There was nothing quite like it on the Peninsula, so I thought it would fill a gap.”

Since its beginning in 2017, each year this free festival continues with a new theme. For 2021, it’s A Floral Library – Fairy Tales, Fantasy, Fiction and Fact. Art and floral installations will be displayed as different sections of a library such as children’s literature, crime, romance, and travel. Entertainment will include local music groups such as Bits and Pieces Band, Bruce Scammells Harmonica, and Peter’s Rock Music Group.

“We try to put in something every year that’s a new attraction,” Liz said. “No two festivals are the same, but flowers, art, pottery, music, and teas are constants as they are so popular.

“There are seats and pews inside and outside under cover for those who want to stay, rest and revisit other areas, and a children’s corner on the veranda for activities,” she said.

All flowers and arrangements, art, pottery, plants, and flowering pots are for sale throughout the three-day festival. Some may be taken away immediately and others can be reserved and collected at the end of the festival.

“This year, we are expanding the festival to a larger outside area,” Liz said. “We have demonstrating experts who are going to teach, talk, and explain how to improve your gardening techniques, look after and create bonsai trees, how to get your orchids to bloom, and how to handle prickly cactus. There will also be a large craft stall, and demonstrating artists will cover acrylics, pastels, and scratch boarding, as well as watercolours.”
