You’d be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated collector than self-confessed Trekkie, Fiona Dockrill – yet she is just one of many passionate exhibitors being featured at Hobby Fest, this month.

St Peter the Fisherman Anglican Church is hosting the popular Hobby Fest event again on Saturday 19 October.

Fiona, from Woody Point, is one of around 25 hobbyists who will be displaying their unique collections.

Fiona said she had been collecting Star Trek items since the 1990s when she first started watching the series.

“I have around 235 items all up from all of the different shows. Everything from shower curtains and lunchboxes, to Star Trek monopoly games and stubbie holders, plus a Star Fleet Academy graduation certificate signed by George Takei (Sulu in the original series),” Fiona said.

Fiona, who has a theatrical background, was drawn to the sci-fi franchise because of its sets and props.

“I’m a big Shakespeare fan as well, and even have a book of Hamlet written entirely in Klingon language.”

Fiona will have around 50 of her most prized Star Trek items on display at Hobby Fest.

Hobby Fest coordinator, Diana Borger, said attendees from previous events were always impressed by the passion of all the different hobbyists and the diverse range of exhibits.

“There will be model cars and planes, miniature fire engines, woodwork, Star Wars models, teddy bears, pottery, gems, steam engines, handmade jewellery, items from the Redcliffe Men’s Shed, dolls, artwork, home-made cards, animals made out of metal and much more,” Diana said.

“There will also be a display of 1950s household items including an old telephone, magazines, records and old currency.”

The event will include embroidery, cross-stitch and flower arranging demonstrations as well as a bee-keeping display. Some items on the day will also be available to purchase.

Entertainment will include harmonica player, Bruce Scammells, poet Ron Liekefett, and the Humbybong School Choir. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day. Entry is $2 and free for school-aged children. For more information contact Diana Borger on ph. 3284 1885.
