Pro Golf Returns to The Peninsula

event

Time : 11am
Where : Redcliffe Golf Club
Address : Handsworth Street, Clontarf
Pro Golf will make a return to the Peninsula this July when the Redcliffe Golf Club tees off with a first time event, The Optilease Redcliffe Pro-Am.

Hannah Mason, golf operations manager at the club said it has been about 25 years, since the Redcliffe Golf Club, hosted a tournament of this prestige.

“Apart from trainee tournaments over the years, this tournament is considered as massive, not just for the club, but for Redcliffe in general,” Hannah said.

“The club was excited to be included in the Sunshine Swing of the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series, and will be striving to make this an annual event for Redcliffe,” Hannah said.

The Ladbrokes’ PGA Pro-Am Series is a national event program for professional and amateur golfers, and the Redcliffe Pro-Am is one of five being held over the week, at various golf courses around the Brisbane area. This leg of the Sunshine Swing is usually held in September, but has been brought forward this year, because the PGA already has some larger tournaments scheduled for that period.

About 45 leading pro golfers are expected to join local pro, Doug Klein, at the Pro-Am on 15 July, to play for the purse of $15,000. Doug was a Redcliffe Club Champion three years in a row from 2015 to 2017.

The Redcliffe course is an 18-hole championship par 71 slope, rated 123 blue course. The players form groups of four, with one or two pros in each group, alongside the amateurs.

The tournament is free for spectators and the bar facilities will be open for refreshments. The restaurant will be closed to the public following the event, as a sit down presentation dinner is scheduled for the professionals and players.

Hannah Mason said the course looked in immaculate condition, and she had never seen any course around Brisbane looking greener.

“These course conditions along with some challenging holes being set could make for some entertaining golf being played,” Hannah said.
