Youth Invited to Turn Up Respect
Redcliffe's younger residents are being invited to 'turn up' for an action-packed youth event on Friday 20 September.

'Turn Up Respect', which is being held at Picnic Hill, will showcase all of the different activities and services available for youth on the peninsula. The event also recognises Respect Day which is observed globally on 18 September.

Those attending Turn Up Respect will also have an opportunity to meet rugby league legend, Petero Civoniceva, and professional heavyweight boxer, Alex Leapai.

Sergeant Sarah Grayson, from the Moreton District Crime Prevention Unit, said the event was an initiative of the local drug action team, which was established after receiving a grant from the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, following a spike in youth crime.

The aim of the event is to highlight everything that is on offer for young people. We want to get [local youth] engaged in meaningful activities so they feel a bit more connected to their community,ť Sgt Grayson said.

Sgt Grayson said another one of the overall goals was to keep young offenders off the street and discourage them from committing crimes by providing local opportunities and support.

Turn Up Respect will bring together local agencies, emergency services, sporting and community groups in a fun and informative environment.

There will be loads of games, entertainment, food, as well as an inflatable obstacle course and hands-on sports displays from the local softball club, squash club and more. Attendees will be able to get a taste of sports, music, dance, gaming ' all the different things available to them,ť St Grayson said.

The event is free to attend and while it is aimed at youth aged 10 and up, all ages are welcome to attend.

Turn Up Respect is the latest initiative held in of support Redcliffe's highly successful Respect project, which aims to create a community where all relationships are respectful and everyone speaks and treats each other with respect.
