The Redcliffe Harness Racing Club is all set for a bumper Winter Carnival meeting this month at the Redcliffe Paceway. The carnival is the club’s first ever Saturday night program.

Highlights of the night include the Moreton Bay Regional Council Redcliffe Gold Cup, Comfort Inn and Suites Redcliffe Derby, TAB Redcliffe Oaks, Garrard’s Redcliffe Yearling Sales Series Final and the TAB Redcliffe Trotters Cup.

Bernie Ring, president of the club, said hosting five group races on the peninsula, at this event, was unprecedented following the very first group race held here, last year.

“Some big names in the harness racing industry will be here, with Victorian trainer driver team, Lauren and Shane Tritton, along with Ricky Alchin who will be back for a possible tilt at the Derby with Regulus, the winner of last year’s Yearling Sales Series Final,” Bernie said.

Peninsula residents are invited to take in the action from a range of great vantage points, including upstairs in the Paceway Restaurant, while enjoying a meal or a relaxing drink from the bar.

“We’ll have some additional entertainment on the night in the restaurant as well as a live band playing downstairs outside, where music can be enjoyed until after the last race,” Bernie said.

The club is also assuring patrons of its commitment to safety following an accident that occurred earlier this year.

“We have worked closely with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland to put in place the [required] safety measures and have been given the all clear to continue racing,” Bernie said.
