Best Ink On Show
If you love body art or want to show off your best tattoo, you won’t want to miss this month’s Tattoo and Rockabilly Show on June 16.

Hosted by Patriots Australia Moreton Bay Chapter at their Redcliffe Showgrounds Clubhouse, the family day out is also a chance to check out some of the region’s best ink artists and their work.

Sergeant at Arms for the Chapter, Shane Walker (known in the club as ‘Mud’), says the show has been running on the Peninsula for nine years and is a fundraiser for a charity close to the club’s heart, Legacy.

“It was first started [to] raise awareness of who we are and to get a bit of money for charity, and it has grown to where it is today,’’ Shane says.

“The show is all about people coming along with their families, enjoying the day and showing off their art.’’

A highlight of the day will be the Miss Patriots 2018 Tattoo Pageant. Eight beautifully tattooed women have been shortlisted to take part in the pageant.

“All the ladies dress in the rockabilly 50s/60s style, and I think it is a popular part of the day because it brings back a style from yesteryear and probably photos they have seen from their mothers’ or grandmothers’ day,’’ Shane says.

The tattoo competition is broken up into a number of categories, and trophies are awarded for best and runner-up.

“Tattoos are a personal thing usually, and people like to show them off, and it is good for the tattooists who have done the work as well because their work is seen.”

Gates open at 10am. Live music will entertain the crowd all day. There will be a licenced bar, food and clothing for sale. Two tattooists will be operating on the day.

Entrance to the show is $10 for adults and children are free. It costs $5 to enter the tattoo competition in as many categories as you would like.

All money raised on the day goes to Legacy.

“We are a military club with all members having served or are still serving,’’ he says.

“It is a way to donate to Legacy who help military veterans and their families.’’
