The Deception Bay foreshore will turn into a work of art this month with the annual 'Between The Tides' community art event, a collection of works from Brisbane artists.

Held on June 10, the installation will reach across the tidal sandbar to create a large-scale interactive installation.

Run by contemporary art group Carte Blanche, the installation, titled Tidal Dreams, is now in its sixth year and is a unique way to bring art into the open for all to enjoy.

Carte Blanche member Trudy Stephens says 'Between The Tides' is the perfect forum to experience art and celebrate the local surroundings, as well as address environmental issues.

Visitors will discover a vast array of colour and movement from a distance and on closer inspection, they will be surprised by the intricate detail in some of the artwork, she says.

The artwork is placed on the sand as the tide is receding and then taken away as the tide is coming back in.

The area at Deception Bay was chosen because the low tide leaves a vast area of sand exposed, which is ideal for this exhibition.

Most of the materials used are recycled or from nature, and there is always an environmental message.

Carte Blanche is passionate about working collaboratively towards group exhibitions within the community.

We have been the artists in residence at Redcliffe State High School for the past five years working with students and staff, exhibiting at Redcliffe City Art Gallery, Pine Rivers Gallery, The Hub Gallery at Caboolture and The Fire Station Gallery at Redcliffe, she says.

We also have developed a relationship with Cerebral Palsy League based at Cascade Place, and the artists have contributed artwork over the past few years.

Thanks to kind donations from Koliana Winchester, our local councillor, we have purchased 20 metres of matting which we lay on the sand to enable the artists from Cascade to move onto the sand in their wheelchairs.
