International Women
Quota International of Redcliffe is hosting an International Women's Day Breakfast at Mon Komo Hotel to celebrate the shared success, action and ownership of gender equality.

Beginning at 6:45am for a 7am start on Friday 9th March, the morning will aim to recognise the social, economic, cultural, and political status and achievement of women, both locally and further afield.

With this year's global theme, 'Leave No Woman Behind', examining the vital role that women play in humanitarian and disaster planning and response, Quota International of Redcliffe are excited to announce their guest speaker of the morning, Dr Betty Coutanceau.

A now-retired, Malaysian-Chinese Australian GP who has travelled to Nepal every year since 1999 with her husband to help the poor and young Tibetans, Betty's charity work has supported many of those marginalised by poverty and culture.

Many years ago, we started off working in medical camps in the very remote regions of Nepal, mainly by providing gynaecological services to women who were suffering prolapses from childbirth and heavy, manual labour. We then transitioned into contributing social, medical, and financial aid to Nepalese orphanages, to now providing income generational activities for men and women, apprenticeship and tuition centres, a feeding centre for those suffering leprosy, plus supporting an aquaponics project in Kathmandu. Education has been one key element in assisting and raising awareness for, and about, those who experience hardship and difficult circumstances, especially the poor women in Nepal who often do not have a voice. We aim to give them one.

Coordinator of the breakfast, Avril Kent of Quota Redcliffe, says, Many extraordinary Australian women over the years have rarely made it onto the front pages of the newspaper for the wonderful things that they do, so this breakfast is one way to say that this is your day, bask in the glory. Attendees will also benefit by hearing about the world outside of Australia, knowing that monies raised by the breakfast will go to a good cause and by helping to promote the empowerment of women, children and the poor.

The hot breakfast and talks are expected to finish by 8:15am to accommodate school students getting to school on time.

Date: Friday 9 March, 7am

Tickets are: $28 Adults; $250 Table of 10; $22 School students, and are payable by cheque or direct debit. Call Avril for more information on ph 3886 0045 or ph 0407 378 450.
