Ox Marks the Spot
Four decades on, life is still golden for local award-winning, family-run restaurant The Golden Ox.

Nick Tzimas is the proud owner and a third-generation chef from Preveza in Greece. He says the restaurant's 40th milestone was a chance to celebrate with friends, family and the community.

The last forty years have been a mix of challenges and joy, so it has been very rewarding and humbling to reach this point and share it with all our loyal family and community members,ť he says.

The booked-out event was amazing and a true celebration of our achievements.

A live band provided a great atmosphere to the evening, combined with dancing, great food and even special cocktails that our son and head chef Peter created.ť

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Allan Sutherland added a touch of prestige to the occasion, as well as councillors Koliana Winchester, Peter Flannery and James Houghton.

Nick says it was heart-warming to see their dedication to the community mirrored in Cr Sutherland's speech on the evening.

The Mayor reflected on our commitment and passion for our local community, including raising more than $500,000 for charities supporting children, cancer initiatives and the homeless,ť he says.

Community is the very essence of our business and giving back to the people that have supported us for so many years is very rewarding and humbling to us.ť

Looking to the future, Nick is excited the direction the restaurant is taking under the leadership of his son, Peter.

Peter is now in charge of the running of the business and he has taken the restaurant to new heights in recent years,ť Nick says.

All the beautiful interiors and design was his idea and he has an excellent, modern eye for presentation, both in and out of the kitchen.

He has won multiple awards for his food, which is testament to the detail and care he takes with each and every dish.

Peter is very particular about produce and only uses fresh seafood from Moreton Bay and even ages his own beef.

Under Peter's leadership, we are looking forward to another 40 years of amazing food, beautiful events and community support ' small business is the backbone of Australia.ť
