Add Your Voice to the Multitude
If you’re always singing loudly in the car or the shower, it might be time to lend your skills to a choir. Multitude Choir is open to anyone aged over 18 with a desire to sing as part of a group and there’s no audition required.

Multitude Choir marketing and promotions manager Adele Moy said the group was formed in 2004 by some local music lovers to bring together people who were passionate about singing in a contemporary choir.

“Music is a universal language,” Adele said.“It is uplifting, makes your heart, mind and soul sing, especially in these uncertain times. It is lovely to have a place to go every Thursday night, where it doesn’t matter if you are feeling a bit intimidated or shy about your singing ability.

“The sheer joy of opening your mouth and lungs and joining in with like-minded people overrides everything.”

Adele said many people who’ve joined the choir have never sung before or haven’t sung since their school days.

“Some of us read music but a lot don’t, which is fine because Dale Lingwood, our very patient musical director, teaches us by learning to listen and then repeating,” she said.

The choir often performs their own concerts at local venues with special guests. They also sing at festivals and events throughout Brisbane. One such event is Brisbane Sings, which features choirs and singing groups from all over the city, performing separately and together. Due to restrictions, it will take place in video form this year.

“Multitude has been participating for eight years and is the only choir from the Northern Moreton Bay region to do so. They have been filmed performing on the foreshore and the Redcliffe Jetty. The video will be widely distributed, showcasing our own beautiful area,” Adele said.

If you’ve been thinking about joining a choir, Adele said now is a good time.

“The choir is gearing up for some fun Christmas performances and is starting to learn carols and Christmas songs.”
