Triathlon Flexes With More Festivity
Our local seaside region has long been the idyllic place for a triathlon, and now there's even more to get involved in with the addition of the inaugural Moreton Bay Running Festival.

This year, the Moreton Bay Triathlon will feature all-new race distances and be preceded by a twilight run, with participants having the choice to enter across one or both of the two days' consecutive events.

Business development manager at The Event Crew Sally Teiniker said the distance options were suitable for everyone from kids and beginners right through to elite athletes.

At the Moreton Bay Triathlon, the classic, [with] a new and longer distance than we have offered in the past, is proving popular with the triathlon community, she said.

According to Sally, the option is also a great opportunity to prepare in the lead-up to longer race distances, such as the Cairns Ironman in June.

It's a race that's been known and loved for nine years and counting, but now the (more encompassing) event is set to become a spectacular calendar highlight for residents, visitors, and tourists alike.

The event attracts approximately 5000 people to the region, meaning an increase in local accommodation demand and a flow-on effect to local cafés and restaurants, Sally said.

She said the competition highlighted the great sporting facilities and opportunities available in the region, while providing a memorable occasion for all involved.

Our events are family-friendly, so families will often stay for a picnic or grab breakfast at a local cafe after the triathlon, she said.

With entry numbers looking strong in both the triathlon and running festival, Sally said the offer of a full refund would be available should the event be impacted by COVID-19 restrictions or border closures.

Whether you intend to walk, run or sprint, the directive is to get your entry in fast with competitor numbers capped for safety.

Of course, if you're wanting to be involved less directly, you can cheer as part of the crowd from the sidelines, or even volunteer to help out.
