Ladies Get Race Day Ready
'Racing Fashion & Beauty Festival' gives ladies a night filled with all things needed to help get race day ready.

Race Days in Australia, in particular the Melbourne Cup, are as Australian as koalas and boomerangs. There's not a chance you can escape the fever that Melbourne Cup brings to Australia.

For many, it's about taking the day off work and casting a few bets, but, for a lot of women across the nation, it's a matter of pulling off a great outfit from top to toe. This can be quite daunting for many, and as Kelly Fraser from Shoes on Scarborough has discovered, there is a demand to help women get race day ready.

The idea for the festival came off the back of customers wanting advice on how to get ready for race day, says Kelly.

Kelly and her mother Lorraine Harrison are co-owners of 'Shoes on Scarborough' a boutique ladies fashion shoe store. Time after time, Kelly and Lorraine experienced women coming to the store with outfits they had purchased but were ill equipped with the knowledge to bring the outfit together for race day. Frequently, Kellie found herself fixing fascinators and assisting ladies' look for race days.

When you are prepared and can be proud of your outfit the day will be so much more enjoyable, says Kellie.

Kellie's advice for ladies preparing for race day is to consider what your natural attributes are and work with them, think about comfort for the day and most of all have fun, she says.

The festival will be a combination of expo and party. There will be fashion parades amongst businesses showcasing their race day apparel. A glass of bubbles and canapés are included in the ticket price. It's a guilt free night to have a fun girls night out, says Kellie.

Milliner Marla Jackson will be showcasing her headpieces at the festival. Models will wear her headwear, which have been designed especially for the dresses in the fashion show. Marla says, Ladies biggest struggle is finding a headpiece to match their dress. Marla's advice is to choose something comfortable which suits the style of your dress. Marla is using lots of prints this season. She is also creating crown headpieces with lace, which provide an understated, yet still very feminine look.
